The state unemployment rate remained unchanged in June at 6 percent, according to a jobs report released by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development Thursday. The number of jobs decreased by 2,600.
The drop in the number of jobs followed a gain of 5,000 in May, according to the report. Last month’s estimates show that 206,900 Massachusetts residents were unemployed, out of a labor of force of 3,460,000. But the number of employed residents—3,254,000—is the highest since November 2008, the report said.
Despite an overall decline, the number of jobs increased in several sectors, including business and scientific services; trade, transportation and utilities; information; finance, and manufacturing.
Sectors that lost jobs included hospitality; education; health services and government.
