The Massachusetts Pirates will be partially sponsored by cannabis company Resinate during their upcoming season, the two Worcester companies announced on Tuesday.

Under the deal, Resinate, which operates a dispensary at 1191 Millbury St. in Worcester, will serve as the presenting sponsor of the Pirates website and social media studio, as well as sponsor of the official post-game party following all Pirates home games.

The two companies will co-host five community service events each year for the length of their partnership, the latter of which was not specified in the announcement.

As part of the announcement, both Resinate and the Pirates touted the potential benefits of cannabis consumption as an alternative to certain painkillers, as well as a tool to de-stress.

“I believe our community certainly benefits from having Resinate a part of it, and we are elated to assist their brand from an exposure standpoint in the New England area and be an advocate for natural healing remedies for those who are interested in more of a holistic medical approach,” said Jawad Yatim, Pirates founder and director of sponsorship sales, in a statement. “With the rigors of playing a contact sport for so many years as our players have, it's essential to be open minded when it comes to recovery and treatment for not just your body but your mind as well.”

The Pirates are planning to host a press conference in Worcester on Monday to formally announce the partnership.
