The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination has named Michael Memmolo as the agency’s first ever executive director.
Memmelo comes to the role with two decades of public service experience, having previously served as MCAD’s interim executive director since July 2022 before being officially selected for the role on a non-interim basis on April 11. Prior to his interim role, Memmelo acted as MCAD’s CFO and director of operations and human resources, according to a MCAD press release on Monday.
“After 21 months in the role as Interim, I am confident in my work ethic, integrity, and ability to do the job from day one. Our team has had great success in the past two years, including our collaborative work to open a new MCAD Worcester office in record time, achieve full funding from the legislature, and we’ve made significant strides in innovating our operations,” Memmolo said in the release.
With headquarters in Boston and locations in Worcester and Springfield, MCAD works to enforce the state’s anti-discrimination laws through investigating discrimination complaints, including those pertaining to employment, housing, and public accommodations.
“It was critical that the recruitment of the first MCAD Executive Director was thorough and brought in strong candidates from diverse backgrounds,” MCAD Commissioner Monserrate Rodríguez Colón said in the release. “I am pleased that Mike will be the first to take on the role, especially knowing the strong foundation we’ve built together with him acting as the Interim.”
