Mass. Upgrades Web Unemployment System

The state this week launched a new Web-based system for unemployment assistance that it said will improve the processing of jobless benefits while strengthening the ability to detect fraud.

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said the system, UI Online, replaces what it called an “outdated and fragmented” system.
UI Online provides easier access to services for employers and job seekers, and will enhance the delivery of unemployment benefits without changing the program, the agency said.

“The development and launch of UI Online modernizes the way we do business and the ease with which claimants and employers can access the system,” said Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Joanne F. Goldstein. “UI Online is a dynamic tool that keeps up with technology, more efficiently serves both job seekers and employers and significantly improves the integrity of the unemployment insurance system.”

For customers choosing to use the phone system, staff from the office’s Department of Unemployment Assistance will continue to be available via phone. Phone hours will expand to 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Aug. 2, the agency said.
