Massachusetts unemployment rate has been at 3.5 percent for eight straight months, according to the state’s Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
Friday’s jobs report for May included the addition of 6,200 jobs, 5,900 of which came from the private sector.
The labor force also increased, rising by 27,500, including 26,500 more employed and 1,000 more unemployed.
For the month, the largest private sector gain was in the professional, scientific and business services industry with 3,000 more jobs. Education and health services saw an identical gain, but reflected a lower percentage increase.
Other gains include leisure and hospitality (500); information (300); trade, transportation and utilities (200),;manufacturing (200) and financial activities (200).
Job losses occurred in other services (1,200) and construction (300).
For the year, the biggest job gain has been in professional, scientific and business services with 23,200 for an increase of 4.1 percent. Construction is next with 8,800 jobs added for a 5.9-percent increase.
