Mass. unemployment falls to 3.6 percent

Thanks to a 7,300 rise in jobs added in Massachusetts last month, the unemployment rate has dropped to 3.6 percent.

In October, the rate was 3.7 percent. November’s rate is the lowest is has been since March. In November 2016, the state unemployment rate was 3.1 percent. 

The data, released by the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development on Thursday, includes job gains in leisure and hospitality; education and health services; construction, professional; scientific; business services and manufacturing.

From last November, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates an addition of 65,200 jobs in Massachusetts the office said.

The state’s unemployment rate is 0.5 percent lower than the national rate of 4.1. 

In a statement, Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Rosalin Acosta said last month marked the 13th consecutive month of private sector job growth, including 1,600 in manufacturing.

Over the year, manufacturing has added 2,600 jobs, a increase of 1.1 percent. 

For the year, construction is leading the way with a 6-percent job growth, followed by professional, scientific and business services with a 3.5-percent growth and 19,500 new jobs, and leisure and hospitality with a 3.1-percent growth and an addition of 11,200 jobs.
