Massachusetts’ unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percentage points from 4.8% in January to 4.7% in February.

The state was one of 31 in the country to see a drop in unemployment, with the other 19 states remaining stable, according to a Friday report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national unemployment rate, 3.8%, was still lower than Massachusetts’ average.

The state unemployment has dropped two percentage points over the course of the year, down from 6.7% in February 2021.

Massachusetts gained 14,600 jobs in February 2022, a 0.4% growth since the previous month. This follows January’s revised gain of 9,400 jobs.

There are now 3,662,400 employed people in the state. That marks a 5% increase in the workforce since February 2021, with 173,500 more people than this time last year.

The largest gains both in the month of February and over the course of the year have been in the leisure and hospitality industry, which took one of the hardest hits to employment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February, trade and utilities, manufacturing, and information all saw job growth of about 0.8%.
