Research released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative has found 122 companies making up the state’s robotics cluster employed more than 4,700 workers and generated more than $1.6 billion in revenue in 2015.
The new research report, commissioned by MassTech and authored by ABI Research, focused on the state’s pull for this industry because of strong academic and research and development centers. In 2015, these businesses brought in $190 million in private investment in 2015, equal to 23 percent of total U.S. funding, second only to California.
The report identified the following three key robotics segments where Massachusetts ranks consistently among the top 3 states in the country:
The report highlighted a number of local organizations, including ReWalk Robotics as an international company with its U.S. headquarters in Marlborough, as well as Worcester Polytechnic Institute as supporting the robotics industry.
