Massachusetts residents spent approximately $730.6 million at Connecticut's two resort casinos last year, according to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Policy Analysis.
According to the center's New England Casino Gaming Update 2010, Massachusetts residents spent $709 million at the Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut in 2008.
But the 2009 increase doesn't bring Bay State spending at Connecticut casinos anywhere near the $846.2 million and $876.2 million residents spent there in 2007 and 2006, respectively.
The study found that 35.7 percent of Foxwoods patrons are from Massachusetts compared to 31.9 percent from Connecticut.
Massachusetts residents contributed $96.6 million to the Connecticut general treasury as a result of its citizens' gaming activity in that state.
And Connecticut isn't the only beneficiary of Massachusetts' residents' gaming dollars.
Nearly half of all visitors to the Twin River casino in Lincoln, R.I., were from Massachusetts in 2009, and the report estimates that Massachusetts residents spent just shy of $1 billion at area casinos during the year.
