Housing market confidence among Realtors in Massachusetts rose for the 13th straight month in August, with most of them seeing flat-to-higher inventory levels for available homes over the next six months, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors said today.
The group's Market Index is up 97 percent over August 2011, although down 2 percent from July. Meanwhile, the association's Price Index, which measures what Realtors are seeing in home price trends, rose 61 percent year over year, marking the seventh straight month of increases compared with the same month in 2011. Compared with July, the index ticked downward 1.24 percent.
"Regaining confidence in the market is a gradual process, but one that fortunately has been improving for 13 straight months," said association President Trisha McCarthy. "The best way to ensure this upward trend continues is to increase the number of homes for sale. The only way that can happen is for homeowners who want to sell, but have held off, to make the decision to re-enter the market."
