Mass. Realtors confidence down again

The state’s Realtors group said year-over-year confidence among its members in market activity fell for the fifth straight month, though confidence in home prices continues to rise.

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR) said market confidence dropped from 75.52 on a 100-point scale in March 2013 to 69.5 last month. That’s up from a 62.79 reading in February.

But the group’s price confidence index rose year over year from 78.74 to 79.69, marking the 26th consecutive month of increases. That reading was down from the February figure of 80.81.

“The continued lack of inventory of homes for sale is pushing the Price Confidence Index and Market Confidence Index in opposite directions,” MAR President Peter Ruffini said in a statement. “Sellers feel confident because of increasing prices, but that confidence diminishes when they transition into buyers faced with limited inventory to choose from.”
