Mass. Ranks 13th In Construction Jobs Decline

Thirty-eight states, including Massachusetts, reported double-digit declines in construction employment in 2009, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.

Massachusetts reported 101,600 construction jobs in January 2010, down from the 122,000 jobs that existed in January 2009. The new figure represents a 16.7 percent decline.

From December 2009 to January 2010, the state lost 4,000 construction jobs, a 3.8 percent decrease.

Nevada was first on the list with the highest decrease in construction jobs, 29.9 percent, followed by Arizona at 26 percent and Colorado at 22.2 percent.
