Mass Pike electronic tolling starts tomorrow

Manual toll collection on the Mass Pike ends tomorrow.
Manual toll collection on Massachusetts highways will officially end Oct. 28 at 9:45 p.m., and drivers have been asked to plan accordingly.
Under the new program, EZDriveMA, drivers now have the option of using a free EZPass MA transponder to receive a toll discount, using an out-of-state transponder, or being invoiced under the Pay by Plate payment process, according to a press release from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The EZPass MA customer service call center will go offline between 6:45 p.m. tomorrow and 7 a.m. Nov. 1, to update the new EZDriveMA system. At 8 p.m. tomorrow, law enforcement detail and contractors will be visible setting up near existing toll plazas and preparing to mobilize equipment for demolition. Electronic toll gantries will go live at 10 p.m. Customers will be unable to sign up for an EZPass MA account, view their existing accounts and pay-by-play tolling invoices until 7 a.m. on Nov. 1.
Customers who need service between the shutdown times can get walk-in customer service at any of the following locations, though transponders won’t be activated until five days later. Customers can also sign up at any RMV or Massachusetts AAA location during normal business hours.
