Pending sales for single-family homes and condominiums in Massachusetts rose for the 21st straight month in January, foreshadowing an active spring season for transactions, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (MAR).
The number of single-family homes put under agreement last month was up 18.4 percent over January 2012, from 2,599 homes to 3,076. However, on a month-to-month basis, pending sales were essentially flat compared with 3,062 executed agreements in December, the MAR said.
Meanwhile, the number of condominiums placed under agreement last month was up 22.3 percent year over year, from 994 units to 1,216. And pending sales rose 13 percent over December 2012.
The numbers left the association's president, Kimberly Allard-Moccia, optimistic about the months ahead for the housing market.
"The spring home-buying season came early for many buyers in January as the numbers showed they made offers and took advantage of market conditions instead of waiting," she said.
