The state’s unemployment rate ticked up a bit in July and is one-tenth of a percentage lower than where it was at this time last year.

The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced the 3.6 percent employment rate Friday, which rose from the June rate of 3.5 percent. In July 2017, the unemployment rate was 3.7 percent.

Contributing to the slight dip in employment were losses in the leisure and hospitality industry, which lost 1,900 jobs over the month. Government also lost 1,100 jobs and other services lost 900 jobs.

However, the state saw increases in several other industries, including education and health services (2,700); professional scientific and business services (2,100); construction (1,900), manufacturing (1,400) and trade, transportation and utilities (500).

The labor force increased by 27,100 to just over 37.8 million with 2,400 more residents reporting being out a job, raising the state’s unemployment total to 135,800.
