Mass. Jobless Rate Falls To 8.1%

The state's unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent in October from 8.4 percent the prior month, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Preliminary estimates say there were 3.2 million employed residents last month and 282,900 unemployed. That's the lowest number of unemployed residents since April 2009.

An estimated 10,000 jobs were added in October after a loss of 21,300 in September.

The professional, scientific and business services, construction and trade, transportation and utilities sectors all lost jobs in October.

The education and health services sector added 5,100 jobs and the leisure and hospitality sector added 2,800. Other sectors to add jobs were manufacturing, financial activities, information, government and the "other services" sector.
