Unemployment remains low in Massachusetts although job growth has slowed.
Job growth in Massachusetts has slowed, with 22,000 jobs added over the past year, but the state's jobless rate remains low and employers added 6,900 jobs in March.
The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced Thursday morning that the Massachusetts unemployment rate dropped a tick to 4.4 percent in March, with jobs added in the construction, utilities, government, education and health services, and information sectors.
The Massachusetts unemployment rate has fallen 0.7 percent over the past year and remains well below the national jobless rate of 5 percent. The construction sector in Massachusetts has added 16,000 jobs over the past year; education and health services added 16,400, and 10,200 jobs were added in the professional services sector. Government jobs are up 2,700 over the year. Employment in manufacturing is down slightly, by 600 jobs compared to March 2015.
