Mass. gas prices spike 6 cents in last week

Courtesy | State House News Service Gas prices are rising.

Massachusetts average gasoline prices on Monday had increased to $2.75 a gallon of regular unleaded, up from last week’s $2.69.

According to travel association AAA Northeast, the prices will continue increasing as the latest U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly report shows another week of major decline in gasoline stocks and a significant increase in demand within the U.S.

“On average, Americans are paying 14% more to fill-up compared to February,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs. “With increased demand and tighter gasoline supplies, we are looking at more expensive pump prices with little relief in the weeks ahead.”

Gasoline prices a month ago were almost 30 cents lower at $2.47 a gallon, and around 40 cents lower at $2.34 in relation to a year ago.
