Mass. gas prices roughly 50 cents lower than this time last year

Massachusetts gas prices for regular gasoline are averaging $2.09 a gallon of regular unleaded, AAA announced in a Tuesday press release.

The price is 10 cents above the $1.99 national average, the national automobile association reported, although 40% of Mass. gas stations already average less than $2.00.

This time last year, Mass. gas prices averaged $2.53 a gallon.

AAA linked the declining gas prices to the large number of Americans staying home in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

National gas prices may drop to as low as $1.75 as April wears on, according to AAA.
