Mass. gas prices reach most expensive level since 2014

The average gasoline price in Massachusetts on Monday increased 5 cents from last week, which comes a week after it rose 6 cents per gallon, according to a report from travel association AAA Northeast.

The current average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $2.91. Two weeks ahead of Memorial Day weekend travel, gas prices in Massachusetts are $1.95 higher than a year ago and the most expensive since 2014, according to AAA. 

The May 17 survey by AAA Northeast reported the current national average is $2.96 per gallon, 8 cents higher than last week ($2.96) and $1.17 higher than this day last year. Gas prices in Massachusetts are 13 cents lower than the national average.
