Mass. gas prices fall to four-year low

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts have fallen eight cents since last week, dropping below $3 for the first time since December of 2010, according to AAA Southern New England.

A Nov. 10 survey by AAA found that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.96 per gallon across the state, a 30 cent drop from the previous month.

“This is the first time in almost four years that the average price for regular unleaded gasoline at the pump has fallen below three dollars a gallon,” Mary Maguire, AAA Southern New England Director of Public and Legislative Affairs, said in a statement.

The drop comes at a good time for consumers, with the start of the holiday season, she said, although the price in Massachusetts remains three cents above the national average. There is also variation throughout the state, according to AAA, with prices ranging from a low of $2.75 to a high of $3.43.
