The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Massachusetts continues to drop even further, reaching $3.57 on Monday, down 11 cents from last week, according to travel association AAA Northeast.
AAA credits these drops to low domestic demand and the lowest oil prices seen since January, dropping under $80 a barrel.
“Slack demand and lower oil prices should take some pressure off rising gas prices,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs, said in a Monday press release. “But Hurricane Ian could cause problems, depending on the storm’s track, by disrupting oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and impacting large coastal refineries.”
Massachusetts prices have slipped below the national average of $3.72 a gallon, which is up from the previous week by 5 cents. The state’s average price is down 53 cents per gallon from a month ago and up 58 cents from a year ago, when it was the $3.10.
