The average gasoline price in Massachusetts is now $4.18 per gallon of regular unleaded, down 6 cents from last week, according to a Monday report from travel group AAA Northeast.
The 6-cent drop follows President Joe Biden’s decision to release 1 million barrels of oil per day for six months from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The average global price per barrel of oil is now more than $100, according to AAA.
“The upward push on oil prices caused by Russia's war in Ukraine is meeting stronger downward pressure from the planned Strategic Petroleum Reserve oil release and increased coronavirus fears in China,” said Mary Maguire, director of public and legislative affairs at AAA Northeast. "Lower global oil prices are reflected in falling pump prices for consumers in the U.S."
Nationally, fuel prices are 6 cents lower than last week, and up 35 cents from a month ago.
