Mass. gas prices drop 5 cents, now below $4.50

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts fell to $4.47 a gallon on Monday, down 5 cents from the previous week.

The average price nationally dropped 14 cents from last week to $4.21, according to a Monday press release from travel association AAA Northeast.

“We know that most American drivers have made significant changes in their driving habits to
cope with high gas prices, but with fuel prices locally falling every day, it’s possible that gas demand could rise.” said Mary Maguire, AAA northeast director of public and
government affairs in the press release.

Prices in Massachusetts remain higher than in other southern New England states. Rhode Island is at $4.41, down 7 cents from one week ago and Connecticut is down 4 cents to $4.34.
