The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Massachusetts continues rising. This week the price went up one cent to $3.85– marking an overall 26 cent increase in the last month, according to travel association AAA Northeast.
Massachusetts prices are also 8 cents higher than the current national average, which fell by 3 cents from last week.
“The national average for a gallon of gasoline slid three cents in the past week to $3.77, and prices locally have been stable recently,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast vice president of public and government affairs said in a Monday press release. “The main reason is the global cost for oil, gasoline’s main ingredient, has been stuck in a narrow price range of $85 to $92 a barrel for several weeks.”
Furthermore, AAA predicts that Thanksgiving holiday travel will increase by 1.5% over last year, nearing even closer to pre-pandemic volumes. Massachusetts travelers in particular are projected to be up 2.4% from last year. It’s likely that this demand will drive gas prices up even further, for the time being.
