The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Massachusetts continued to fall this week, down 11 cents from last week, to $4.16 a gallon, according to travel association AAA Northeast.
That figure is still higher than the averages for Rhode Island at $4.08 and Connecticut at $4.01, and it is still 26 cents higher than the national average at $3.90 a gallon.
While prices have been dropping steadily, Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs, tells consumers to keep an eye on the weather, as the heart of hurricane season approaches.
“Major storms can boost prices by disrupting oil production in the Gulf of Mexico and impacting large coastal refineries,” she said in a Monday press release.
Prices remain well above the average of $3.04 a year ago, as people were just beginning to travel again after an early summer COVID spike.
