Mass. gas prices continue downward trajectory, now at $4.06

The average price of a gallon of gas in Massachusetts continues to drop, hitting $4.06, down 10 cents from last week, according to travel association AAA Northeast.

Prices in the Commonwealth are still higher than the national average of $3.85 a gallon, according to a Monday press release from the organization.

“Gas prices remain relatively high here in the northeast, where inventories are lower than in other parts of the country,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs.

The average is down 42 cents from a month ago, but still just over a dollar higher than a year ago, when the travel industry was recovering from an early summer spike in COVID.
