Mass. Export Center Wins Two National Awards

The Massachusetts Export Center, which has an office at Worcester State College, won two national awards recently.

Last week, the center won the Presidential ‘E’ Award for excellence in exporting. Earlier in the month, the center won the U.S. Small Business Administration‘s Service Center Excellence and Innovation Award. President George W. Bush and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez presented the center with the ‘E’ award.

The center was the nationwide winner of the SBA award, which recognizes small business development centers for assisting entrepreneurs and small business owners.

The center is based in Boston. Statewide, the center serves more than 1,000 businesses yearly. The center’s clients increased their export sales by 27 percent between 2005 and 2006, the center said. In 2006, the center’s clients reported more than $160 million in export sales, enough to generate and retain more than 2,000 jobs.
