Massachusetts saw a 1.3% increase in employment from June to July, marking a year-over-year job growth of 7.8% since July 2020, according to a Friday report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The state gained 43,400 jobs in July, almost four times June's gain of 11,200 jobs. Massachusetts has gained 254,200 jobs since July 2020.
The Massachusetts labor force increased by almost 4,900 workers from June to July, which means there are about 139,000 more people in the workforce than there were a year ago. The labor force includes both employed and unemployed workers.
While the national unemployment rate dropped by half a percentage point in July, unemployment in the state remained unchanged at 4.9%, and still lower than the 5.4% national rate.
The Massachusetts unemployment rate has been cut in half since July 2020, when the rate was 9.8%.
While 17 states saw decreased unemployment in July, Massachusetts is one of 33 states that remained stable.
Leisure and hospitality is still the fastest growing sector and has expanded almost 38% in the last 12 months.
