Massachusetts added fewer jobs in November than in previous months but the jobless rate still ticked slightly downward, the Patrick administration said today.
Unemployment in the Bay State fell from 7.2 percent in October to 7.1 percent, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. But that’s 0.4 percent higher than the unemployment rate at this time last year.
The biggest gains by industry in November came in professional, scientific and business services (2,800 additional jobs), manufacturing (2,100) and government (1,600). Professional services and government have seen net employment gains over 2013, while manufacturing continued to lose jobs.
Trade, transportation and utilities took the biggest hit with the loss of 1,500 jobs last month. But the sector has still added 5,400 jobs over the year.
