Massachusetts employers added 8,100 jobs last month, continuing a year-long trend of job growth, the Patrick administration announced today.
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) said the state’s unemployment rate, meanwhile, dropped another 0.2 percent, to 6.3 percent, citing preliminary estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The growth for the month came mostly from the private sector, where 7,800 net jobs were added, led by education and health services, transportation and utilities, and what the BLS called “other services.”
Overall, the Bay State added a net 50,400 jobs from April 2013 through March, with 53,900 jobs added in the private sector, with a net loss of 3,500 public-sector positions, the EOLWD reported.
