The profitability of 63 acute care hospitals in Massachusetts was stable for the period ending March 31, 2016, when compared to the same time in 2015, according to a new state report.
The Center for Health Information and Analysis reported Friday that 16 hospitals reported negative total margins in the latest reporting period, while 47 were profitable. Nine teaching hospitals were the most profitable, according to the report.
The statewide total median margin was 3.5 percent, up from 3.1 percent on March 31, 2014.
Massachusetts General Hospital reported net assets of $2.29 billion and the largest profit, $89.3 million, among the acute care hospitals covered in the report. The largest loss, $17.2 million, was also reported at a Partners HealthCare hospital, North Shore Medical Center.
