Masonic Health Acquires Northampton Facility

Charlton-based Masonic Health Systems of Massachusetts has expanded into Western Massachusetts with the acquisition of Hampshire Care of Northampton.

Masonic Health is considering a plan to convert the Northampton facility to the so-called "small house" model, which would house the elderly in clusters of homes that together would be licensed as a nursing home.

Hampshire Care is a 120-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility and has been owned by the Hampshire Council of Governments since 1914. As part of the acquisition, Masonic Health has changed the name of the facility to Overlook Health Center at Northampton.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The new name is in line with the names of Masonic Health's other businesses, which include the Overlook Life Care Community in Charlton and the Overlook Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Services.
