The Marlborough company that has created sport cleats for more than half a century has rebranded itself to mark its anniversary.
Founded in 1931 by Harold MacNeill, the CHAMP brand is still family owned. In the 1940s they introduced a golf spike used by some of the best players, including Byron “Champ” Nelson who suggested the company adopt his nickname for marketing purposes. For 2016, a refreshed logo and updated packaging colors and designs will complement a new social media presence, as the brand will now utilize the handle @champgolf1931 online to reflect its heritage.
Beyond golf, the company has a strong presence in a variety of other sports and industrial activities, including football, soccer, baseball and logging. Harris MacNeill, president and CEO, is the third generation of the family to operate the company.
CHAMP is the world’s largest manufacturer of replacement spikes.
