New England Innovation Academy, a private boarding and day school for grades 6-12, has received accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the region’s educational quality assurance agency.
Separately, the academy has received approval from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Student Exchange & Visitor Program to provide I-20 documentation for international students, a key step in attracting non-resident applicants to the school.
The NEASC accreditation and approval from ICE, which were announced via a press release issued by NEIA on Wednesday, will help the school expand its student body, according to NEIA head of school Tom Woelper.
“NEASC accreditation and the ability to welcome international boarding students is a tremendous step forward for NEIA,” Wolper said in the release. “This outside validation from NEASC and the ability to expand our student body by drawing from the global community indicates that we’re continuing to make progress on that goal.”
The school’s existing international body includes students from Uganda, Rwanda, Jamaica, Switzerland, and South Korea, according to NEIA’s website.
The school has an enrollment of 110 students and annual boarding tuition of $68,856, according to BoardingSchoolReview.com, which said the school verified those figures.
NEASC’s report on NEIA cited the school’s international curriculum and dedicated teaching staff as an ideal prototype for schools with similar focuses, according to the press release.
News of the school’s accreditation and approval from ICE comes as NEIA prepares to graduate its first senior class, with students having earned acceptance to colleges including Babson College in Wellesley, New York University, and Northeastern University in Boston.
Opened in 2021, NEIA describes itself as a boarding and day school that uses human-centered design to teach empathy as a foundation for innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
