RK Center, a Hannaford-anchored shopping plaza on Route 20 in Marlborough, is expanding with the purchase of adjacent retail space for nearly $8.7 million.
The Needham-based retail owner bought about 50,000 square feet of additional retail space next to its existing plaza in a deal closed June 3. RK Centers bought the property from Crosspoint Associates, an owner of retail, industrial and office space, including the 9X27 Exchange plaza in Natick, which includes Staples, Chipotle and Dollar Tree.
RK Center's expansion in Marlborough adds Sullivan Tire, Mattress Firm, Chipotle, Subway, Great Clips and Pediatric Dentistry. The site also includes a vacant former Planet Fitness, as well as a developable vacant pad site that can fit a 7,500-square-foot tenant. The property last sold in 2006 for $4 million and was last assessed by the City of Marlborough at $3.9 million.
RK Center already included an Office Max, Dollar Tree, LongHorn Steakhouse, Five Guys, Panera Bread and others. A four-story office building is also on the property.
The site sits in a stretch of Route 20 just west of I-495 that has become more built out in the past few years with construction of the Apex Center of New England, which includes two hotels, an entertainment center, an office building with more than 100,000 square feet, and other restaurants and retailers.
