Sheaumann Laser, a Marlborough firm that designs and manufactures lasers, has received a $2.3-million state grant to aid adaption of new technology.
Funding from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative, which was announced Thursday, will help Sheaumann Laser with creating high-power integrated laser and amplifier devices.
Companies in Billerica, Westfield and Wilmington received smaller grants, along with Northeastern University and UMass Lowell.
Sheaumann Laser, a 30-person firm, designs and makes lasers and modules for industrial, defense, medical and printing applications.
The Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative, known as M2I2, said the new technological capabilities for Sheaumann Laser will enable a wide range of new domestically produced commercial and military applications.
