CloudWave, a Marlborough-based healthcare IT company, has acquired Sensato Cybersecurity Solutions of New Jersey and named that company’s founder, John Gomez, as chief security and engineering officer, a position created for Gomez.
The healthcare industry is a popular target for cyber criminals, according to a Monday press release from Cloudwave.
Last year, more than 500,000 patients were impacted by two cyber attacks at healthcare facilities in Worcester and Marlborough, among the incidents reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.
“As a managed cloud service provider to hundreds of hospitals, CloudWave has witnessed how devastating a cyber event can be to healthcare organizations. Unfortunately, the frequency of these attacks continues to rise – an increasing number of customers have called upon CloudWave for rapid response services to help halt and remediate cyberattacks on their on-premises systems in just the last two years,” Erik Littlejohn, president and CEO of CloudWave, said in the press release.
With the acquisition of Sensato, CloudWave can beef up its security offerings to hospitals with the Sensato Cybersecurity suite.
CloudWave provides its cloud services to more than 250 hospitals, according to the press release.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
