After less than a year and a half on the job, Marlborough Hospital President and CEO Karen Moore resigned last week, the hospital announced.
According to the hospital's vice president of marketing, communications and development, Ellen Carlucci, Moore stepped down for personal reasons. She had been in the position since November 2011.
Carlucci said the hospital was notified of Moore's resignation by UMass Memorial Health Care – the system Marlborough Hospital is part of – and the hospital's board of trustees March 25.
COO Candra Szymanski is stepping in to fill Moore's role on an interim basis. Carlucci said Szymanski has been at the hospital for nearly 12 years and with UMass Memorial for almost 30. She was also interim president and CEO before John Polanowicz – who is now the state's secretary of the health and human services – took over in 2003.
Carlucci said the steps for how to proceed to find a new CEO for the hospital will be determined at a board of trustees meeting later this month.
