Marlborough environmental testing firm Accutest Laboratories of New England has been fined $100,000 for allegedly not complying with a 2014 court judgement that included $1.75 million in fines for alleged environmental violations.

In May, 2014 Accutest was fined $350,000 for failing to obtain required state permits before emitting large quantities of hazardous air pollutants (HAP) from its laboratory facility in violation of state air pollution control laws. That was part of a $1.75 million in fines against the company for alleged violations at the Marlborough site as well as sites in East Longmeadow, Westborough and Mansfield.

However, the company allegedly did not make agreed upon improvements that would have brought the company into compliance with the state’s hazardous waste law, according to Attorney General Maura Healey. An October 2014 inspection by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection found that the company was improperly storing hazardous waste for longer than permitted and that it was overcrowding its storage area. This had been an issue raised in the court judgement. Healey also alleged that Accutest was inadequately addressing emergency prevention at its facility in the event of an accident.

Accutest has since brought its facility into compliance with regulatory requirements, Healey said.
