Marlborough medical technology firm Hologic has developed and introduced a mammogram the company says provides more comfort.
Hologic on Tuesday announced the commercial availability of SmartCurve, a breast stabilization system the company says delivers a more comfortable exam without compromising quality or workflow.
The system is available only with the company’s Genius 3D Mammography exam, which the company said is the only such test that can detect more invasive cancers and reduce false positives.
In a press release, Hologic cited a survey of 10,000 women that found women were afraid of physical discomfort and avoided mammograms.
In a recent clinical study, the system improved comfort in 93 percent of women who reported moderate to severe discomfort with a more typical system.
