Marlborough: City Hotels Busier

Marlborough's hospitality industry is showing signs of growth, with a 23.5-percent increase in hotel room revenue over the last three years, according to the Marlborough Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), a public-private partnership for the city.

The MEDC said room revenue grew to $32.8 million in 2012 from $26.6 million in 2010. It also said total revenue from meals by hotel guests rose more than 19 percent over the same span.

"Marlborough is fortunate to have so many great restaurateurs and business owners, who are committed to not only providing our residents and employers with a variety of high-quality places to dine out in, but who also work together to strengthen the fabric of our community," Mayor Arthur Vigeant said in a statement distributed by the MEDC.

The city has three of the nine largest hotels in Central Massachusetts, starting with the Best Western Royal Plaza on Route 20 near the junction of Interstate 495, which has 431 rooms. Embassy Suites, located nearby has 229 rooms.
