Skinner, a midsized art auction house with locations in Marlborough and Boston, has been acquired by London-based global auction house Bonhams.
The financial terms of the acquisition are undisclosed, but the Boston company’s name will be changed to Bonhams Skinner, according to a Thursday press release from Skinner.
Skinner was founded in 1962 and operates spaces in Boston and Marlborough, conducting 80 auctions a year across 23 art categories. Skinner’s Marlborough location is situated on Cedar Hill Street near IPG Photonics and The TJX Cos., Inc. headquarters. The company maintains a staff of 75.
The auction house is managed by CEO Karen Keane and Executive Vice President and Chief Auctioneer Stephen Fletcher, who was Skinner’s first employee.
“Bonhams and Skinner are a great match. With its international reach, Bonhams brings the world to New England, and gives our world-class specialists global access. We are all really excited at the potential created by bringing these businesses together,” Keane said in a written statement.
Founded in London in 1793, Bonhams has been pushing forward a global business strategy, acquiring Swedish auction house Bukowskis in January. The company has flagship salerooms in London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and Hong Kong.
