The Worcester Together fund, a joint effort between the Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the United Way of Central Massachusetts, in conjunction with the City of Worcester, has raised more than $5 million, the fund's organizers announced on Thursday.
Money raised goes toward supporting the needs of local organizations working with communities disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak in Worcester County.
Pushing the fund over $5 million is the result of several large recent donations, including $200,000 from the Fletcher Foundation of Worcester, $100,000 from Martha Pappas of Auburn and $50,000 from Good Chemistry Nurseries, the marijuana retailer with a recreational store in Worcester.
So far, Worcester Together has granted $732,759 to 51 nonprofit organizations. Grants are issued on a rolling basis, and fundraising will continue throughout the coronavirus outbreak and subsequent recovery.
