Marijuana retailer eyes former Elwood Adams Hardware building

A cannabis company is hoping to get city and state approval to open a retail store in the space previously occupied by Elwood Adams Hardware store on Main Street in Worcester.

Bloominus Holdings, a Waltham-based company, is holding a community meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday at 204 Main St. to inform the public of its plans for the space.

Elwood Adams, a historic hardware store of more than two centuries, closed in October 2017.

The meeting is among the first steps a cannabis operator must take before it seeks state and local licenses.

The 14,700-square-foot building was purchased in July for $442,000 by Hingham-based BradyMac Capital Advisory. At the time, principal Hugh McLaughlin told WBJ the top three floors will be renovated into apartments while the hardware store on the first floor would become a retail store or restaurant.

Neither McLaughlin nor a representative of Bloominus Holdings could be reached for comment Friday.

According to corporate filings and the company’s website, Bloominus is headed by Mark DeAngelis, owner of Waltham-based marketing agency Data Associates.

According to state filings, the company is currently seeking a medical marijuana license.
