After previously serving as center director for the Worcester-based organization, Kathie Mahoney has returned as president and CEO of the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension partnership.
“MassMEP and its passionate, capable team members hold the potential to become a top performing MEP Center,” Mahoney said in a statement. “I am excited to move the organization to the next level as trusted advisors to the Commonwealth’s small and medium-sized manufacturing companies.”
Mahoney previously worked for MassMEP as a center director in 2017 before moving to the Polaris Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a division of the University of Rhode Island Research Foundation, to serve as its center director.
“The board conducted a national search and is pleased Kathie agreed to return to MassMEP,” Board Chair Dennis Leonard said in a statement announcing Mahoney’s return. “Kathie brings an unparalleled knowledge of the MEP Center System, a wealth of institutional knowledge from her 21-year tenure with MassMEP, and incredible leadership skills. The organization will thrive with her at the helm.”
She replaces John Killam, who retired from his role leading MassMEP in February, according to his LinkedIn profile. Mahoney took over as CEO on Aug. 22.
MassMEP helps manufacturing companies in Massachusetts improve their operations through training and growth initiatives, including by arranging public-private partnerships.
Mahoney joined MassMEP in 1999, when it was co-founded by Jack Healy, who shaped the organization during his time as president and CEO until 2016, when he retired. Healy was a mentor and coach to Mahoney, according to the MassMEP announcement.
Mahoney serves on the National Institutes of Standards and Technology MEP Center Leadership Team, which advises the federal administrators.
