Long-time chairman of Westborough cancer detection nonprofit steps aside

After 15 years as chairman of DetecTogether, a Westborough-based nonprofit working to early cancer detection, organization Founder Jim Coghlin is stepping aside from his board position, as Patrick McCarty of McCarty Cos. takes over leadership of the board.

Transitioning to the role of honorary chairman, Coghlin will remain in his current position as chief volunteer and fundraiser, according to a Tuesday press release from DetecTogether. Coghlin is also chairman of Westborough manufacturer Coghlin Cos.

“After 15 amazing years leading this organization, I take great pride in our lasting impact in the fight against cancer by teaching people how to detect it early. Together, our programs are continually saving and improving lives by empowering individuals to recognize health changes and take timely action – knowledge that has proven to be lifesaving,” Coghlin said in the release.

Coghlin is succeeded in the chairman position by Patrick McCarty, president and CEO of McCarty Cos., a Leominster-based construction management and consulting firm, who originally joined DetecTogether’s board in 2022.

“I am honored to step into this role during such a strategically pivotal time,” McCarty said in the release. “The work we do here is not just important – it’s life-saving. I’m fully committed to expanding our reach, ensuring more people have the knowledge and tools to detect cancer early, when it’s most survivable.”
