IPG Photonics of Oxford, Westborough IT services firm Virtusa Corp. and Framingham energy services company Ameresco have been named to the Forbes "100 Best Small Public Companies in America" list.
Companies on the list have annual revenues between $5 million and $1 billion and stock prices of at least $5 per share. They are picked based on their earnings growth, sales growth and return on equity, among other criteria.
IPG came in at No. 6 on the list. It had annual sales of $403 million, sales growth of 21 percent and a return on equity of 16 percent. At No. 22, Virtusa had sales of $228 million, sales growth of 19 percent and return on equity of 14 percent. Ameresco was 56th on the list, with sales of $683 million, 18-percent sales growth and 21-percent return on equity.
