Littleton Retailer Tentative On Improvements

Littleton-based equestrian equipment retailer Dover Saddlery Inc. said its third-quarter profit increased nearly 18 percent to $320,000 on revenue of $18.6 million, a 0.4-percent increase.

For the first nine months of the year, the company’s revenue increased 1.2 percent to $54.7 million as same-store sales increased 1.6 percent.

Profit for the first nine months increased to $997,000 compared to $21,000 in the same period a year earlier.

The company said its customer base is starting to strengthen, but cautioned that “purchasing patterns are still erratic.”

Dover is not providing earnings guidance for the remainder of the year or 2011.
