Life Sciences Firm Picks Marlborough As Its HQ

An Israeli-based maker of medical technology has chosen Marlborough as its base of operations in the United States, bringing with it up to 40 jobs.

The company, ARGO Medical Technologies, made the announcement this morning with Gov. Deval Patrick and officials of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center at an industry conference in Boston.

ARGO develops and manufactures walk restoration devices for people with lower limb disabilities. The company's ReWalk product is an exoskeleton suit that helps paraplegics and people with other leg disabilities to stand and walk without assistance. The company's founder, Amit Goffer, is himself a quadriplegic who was inspired to create the device.

The headquarters will be located at 33 Locke Dr., just off the southbound site of Interstate 495 between Route 20 and Interstate 290. The two-story brick structure is also the home of biotech firm GlycoSolutions Corp.

"As ARGO expands from a research and development firm to an international leader in commercial exoskeleton technology, we have selected Massachusetts with its strong commitment to the life sciences industry," said Larry Jasinski, ARGO's CEO.

"ARGO's technology is truly life-changing," added Susan Windham-Bannister, president and CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. "Millions of people with neurodegenerative diseases and spinal cord injuries, including many of our returning veterans,, have been waiting for this kind of breakthrough technology. We are proud to welcome ARGO."

The company was founded in 2001 in Northern Israel. Until 2007, it operated under the auspices of TechnionSeed (formerly the Technion Incubator). It has since added operations in Germany.
